the cape is light-years behind us
there we could do that which we do
still, I’m feeling alright
you know I’m feeling alright
but don’t you tell my bad, bad baby
don’t tell my bad, bad baby
it’s a breeze to get attention
especially if you pay none
still, I’m feeling alright
you know I’m feeling alright
but don’t you tell my bad, bad baby
don’t tell my bad, bad baby
all of my songs are drums
does this sound like something you would hum
the Darwin Sound is gone within the ocean
the gonest girl is done
celebrating one year here ain’t fun
mesmerized and dumb and still not having fun

Instant Drama
03:24
|
|||
you cut your summer in old Benares short
when it turned out you like the Hudson back home
better than the Ganges
better stick to Indie if your Hindi is poor
do you remember me
do you remember the UHB
do you recall the Park Slope maharani
where you fit in better
and you liked the weather
in your western home
you’ve got your instant dharma
you like religious drama
myself, I like masala
but I wouldn’t have it with the Dalai Lama
you found yourself a quiet sherpa guide
that you then hired for the subway ride home
you told the Maharishi
he didn’t seem happy
with your salmagundi
could you just settle it
just think it through a bit
could you maybe just pick one and stick with it
and be specific
this side of the Pacific does get kinda cold

my door’s wide open
my things are gone and, oh my god, this is a bad one
but hey, my place looks bigger now I could have people over
oy vey, who took my TV away, well, joke’s on them
I didn’t like what it had to say and it hurt my eyes
sometimes I’m glad it’s gone
oy vey, who took my fever away
I’m missing things you can’t even steal
how on earth does one lose sex appeal
and is there some guy just walking around with it
oy vey, who took my Hi-Fi away, but wait, did I even have one
is that something you lend and never get back
like books or records or a helping hand
oy vey, who took my hang ups away
at the risk of sounding deterministic
do you think that this is meant to teach me some sort of a lesson
oy vey, who took my girlfriend away
and was I talking to myself all this time
well, that’s a bit disconcerting
oy vey, who took my diction away
and since my stuff’s been gone
I’ve been sitting on the floor thinking of revenge
but no brain storm can make it so I don’t lose my theme song as well
oy vey, who took my money away
and what were they doing looking in my freezer
in retrospect, a bank might have been just a little bit safer
oy vey, who took my manners away

Byzanteens

|

In between East and West only byzanteens allowed
We’ve got irreconcilable similarities keeping our parts apart
And there really is no one left to know
Not one millennial left to call
It’s not that we’re irresponsible or comfortable
They’re hard to tell apart.
Once in a while you get what you want
Every once in a while you get what you want
Every once in a while you get what you want
Every once in a while you get what you want
She asked what we’d try should the room get much warmer
A tropical weave or lose threads altogether
Once in a while you get what you want
Every once in a while you
Get what you want
Get what you want
Get what you want
Get what you
Get what you want.

the new soviet man hates modern art
he likes man-shaped landscapes, baby
and how about that agitprop
I bet they think it’s pretty smart
he got invited to Yoko’s loft
but he’s not all that anti-art
and I play Jai Alai in the parking lot
boy, does he really hate that, baby
he doesn’t like Henri Rousseau
nor Yas Marina, nor Monaco
but what really bugs me though
is that he doesn’t like HBO, baby
he’s never even been to Portugal
or on a 36 Islander
he never even drove a Wildcat II
I mean, it’s true he’s had a lot to do
he never even played Badminton
he doesn’t like us acting like children
he wouldn’t even waste an anecdote
you know he likes speaking in quotes
you know he likes speaking in quotes
you know he likes speaking in quotes
you know he likes speaking in quotes
quietly now

let’s make our way to the ice house
it’s been a fine day in the West Indies
but I’d sail a thousand leagues if it meant
catching up with a college friend
who used to depend on an odd job in Constantinople
and now drives an Opel through Belize with Holiday
a hyphenated American from Winston-Salem
who runs an export company called Embargogo
what’s the opposite of being homesick
is it saudade or just plain malaise
so put down the robinsonade and declare yourself a true debonair
you know it’s unfair that life only comes up in conversations
and to my elation
this hemisphere won’t hold us here for another day
the voivodship dangerous, it feasts on strangers
it has held on to me for twenty-three years now

The Noise Sibiu, Romania
The Noise was formed back in 2011 in an Eastern European tourist trap. The four-piece band is positioned comfortably under
the fairly vague indie-rock label, while privately sorting out influences as diverse as Sahrawi guitar music and disco. Lyrically, you’ll notice themes inspired by geography, 90s sitcoms and, well, human stuff.
